Whether you rely on Google, Yahoo!, MSN, or another search engine, most major search sites now offer toolbars that can be added to your browser, allowing you to quickly search for keywords from any Web page that you happen to be visiting. And beyond keywords, the toolbars offer specific search options for stock quotes, movies, news, products, and more; provide one-click access to e-mail; highlight search terms on pages so keywords are easy to find; and block pop-up ads. more »

The best way to explain this is by comparing it to a real-life (brick & mortar) situation. Picture a web hosting company as the owner of a shopping mall. The shopping mall owner invested a lot of money on hiring architects, constructors, engineers, etc. to build it. Now all the stores on it are empty and the owner is going to rent them to smaller businesses that can't afford (or who simply don't want) their own building.

Preston Hindu Temple - The Gujarat Hindu Society was established in 1965 to cater for and service the needs of the local community in Preston. The Centre runs over thirty different activities with the help of volunteers and a core staff of five members.
Putting down Roots
In the early 60's the first Hindu families, mainly from the state of Gujarat in India came to Preston, Lancashire. They came to work in the cotton mills and to improve the standards of living for their families. Pay per click advertising works through a bidding process, and
the ads appear prominently on the results pages of search engines
such as Google and Yahoo. The highest bidder for a particular
word or phrase receives top placement, and depending on the
engine, the top three to five bidders also generally also receive
placement on the first page of unpaid search results. more »

When I saw my first blog, I wasn't impressed.
The first blogs I ever read were embarrassing tales of teenage angst better left private, political diatribes from both the rabid right and the rabid left, and jargon-filled tech rags that made my eyes glaze over
And yet everyone was talking about blogs and that I would soon be left behind if I didn't have one. But they never gave me a simple explanation of how it would benefit me. They talked about RSS - you know, the obligatory "real simple syndication" - followed by a long, boring, techie article filled with jargon that wasn't simple at all. They talked about syndicating my site, but not how that would benefit my business. more »

Even though I've had several personal blogs for years, I've only been officially business blogging since 2003. So in going back over expenses for the last quarter, you can imagine my shock when I realized that my overall business costs were down about 19%. What saved me so much money? Surprisingly, blogging.

Ever see those little custom icons next to a web site listing in your favorites folder or on your browser address bar? Have you ever wondered how to create one for your own site? Well I'm going to teach you in this article. The icons are called "Favicons", a contraction of the phrase "favorite icons". To see an example, go to SearchEngineCollege.com and bookmark the site (or add to your "favorites" list). Now close your browser window and open a new one. Click on your bookmarked sites or favorites list and find the site you just bookmarked. See the tiny mortarboard graphic next to the listing? That's a Favicon. It makes the site stand out from all the others in your favorites list. If you click on that site, the Favicon will even load next to the URL in your browser address bar from now on. more » |
